Comments on: The State of the Nation

I found the session very useful in helping me understand a little more about the economic and social issues in Brighton and Hove.

However, while many issues were raised, I was dissappointed that there were no resolutions proposed for any particular action. The key, I believe is to recognise those areas that we can influence and focus on actions to address these.

Examples could include:-
1. Skills issues and how to 'educate' employers in the need to improve employee capabilities to improve their contribution to the business..

2. How can we help local companies to grow and hence create new employment opportunities. Also how can they maximise their 'value add' for greater profits so that higher salaries can be paid?

3. What generic issues are faced by businesses and how can we help address them?

I am sure ther are many more.

Regards

Phil Thompson
