HOW I RE-BUILT MY BUSINESS ON A BIG KEY MESSAGE AND SOME CONCERTED NETWORKING...

The Chamber's Carluccios Breakfasts are intentionally inspirational, and this time we've got a white-knuckle roller-coaster personal journey from one of our Vice Presidents.

Ed Carr, owner and Creative Director of Brand Group, tells the story of how he built his business up and then lost virtually his entire customer base when his major client was bought out. "We walked into the studio and sat down at the computers, but had almost no clients - it was a real tumbleweed moment".

Learn exactly how Ed resurrected his business and got it back to where it is today. You’ll laugh and you’ll cry as you’re dragged through the lows and highs of boom, bust and boom, and you’ll discover how you can save time and money by short-cutting your way to better solutions.

Ed reckons he made every mistake in the book – so if you come along for the ride – you won’t need to.

July Breakfast: The Evolution of the Corporation

Friday 27th July
This event is now sold out!

Sponsored by 02

The breakfast meetings are always inspirational, but this one promises to be jaw-dropping as Richard Robinson explains why the behaviour of slime mould, the simplest life form on earth, bears a striking similarity to the modern corporation. Progressing through evolution, from slime mould to sponge, to octopus, to frog, he picks up more and more parallels until, by the time the amphibians are crawling out of their swamps onto dry land, all the necessary conditions for life as a multinational are there.

A naturally witty speaker, Robinson will shake up your Friday and provide you with a new name for the office.

Robinson organises the Brighton Science Festival, which in 2008 will have a strong business component. Come along and get a taste of what's to come from this scientist, busker and founder of Spitting Image.

Training Event Sustainability and the Environment

Thursday 12th July

It seems that the environment is in the news everyday. But does it really affect your business? The answer is a resounding YES. All organisations have the potential to reduce their environmental impact, improve efficiency and find those all important cost savings.

With a volatile energy market and fluctuating prices, this is now especially important. Most companies can easily reduce their energy costs by up to 20%; this could be same effect on their bottom line as a 5% increase in sales.

Looking at energy, water, waste and transport, join us for an engaging and informative session, to find out how your business will benefit from simple actions.

Led by Anya Ledwith of ESHCon Ltd, with representatives from the environmental and business advice sectors, and everyone will have something to learn.

Note that this event has changed date to Thursday 12th July
Time: 5.45pm
Venue: Seattle Hotel, Marina

April Breakfast: Sara Mendes da Costa - the new speaking clock

Friday 27th April

At the point of being about to expand her profitable telemarketing company, Zebratalk, Sara finally admitted to herself she was close to hating it! At this turning point in her life, she gave the staff notice and decided to follow her dreams. She started to pen a novel and to support herself she kept on a couple of telemarketing clients while at the same time using her tenacity and self-promotion abilities to launch herself into the competitive world of voiceovers.

18 months ago, Sara was finally able to leave behind the telemarketing industry, and concentrate solely on writing and voice work. She set up her own home studio and established a client base including ITV, Airmiles, Champneys, Boots, IBM and many more. Last November, Sara entered the BT Speaking Clock competition. She was long-listed, short listed and then was thrilled to be chosen as the winner from 18,405 applicants. As from 2nd April 2007 Sara is the new voice of the Speaking Clock.
