2012 Strategy Group Preview Event

You’re invited...
On 15th March 2011 London 2012 celebrates 500 days to go until the opening of the Olympic Games on 27 July 2012.
You don’t have to wait until 2012 to be part of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Brighton & Hove is also looking forward to the Games and is looking to inspire the city to take part in the celebrations. There are already a number of amazing projects and events planned. The 2012 Strategy Group would like you to join them to preview a number of the projects already taking place.
15th March, 6pm – 7.30pm
Brighton Museum & Art Gallery
At Brighton Museum & Art Gallery, work is already well underway to create an innovative new world cultures gallery, opening next Spring to mark the London 2012 Games. Developed in partnership with young people, this new permanent gallery will explore the changing world around us, drawing on Brighton Museum’s stunning collections from Africa, Asia, the Pacific and Americas, alongside newly commissioned contemporary art and artefacts.
Stories of the World
This is one of the major projects of London 2012’s Cultural Olympiad. It is the largest youth participation project ever delivered by museums, involving young people across the country in creating new exhibitions.
The Boat Project
Lone Twin and a professional boat building team are creating a beautiful, 30ft sea-faring yacht from wooden objects donated from across the region. The Boat Project is the winning commission for the South East Region and forms part of Artists Taking the Lead, a series of 12 public art commissions across the UK to celebrate the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.
We invite guests to bring a piece of wood for the boat to this preview event. But not any old wood, they’d like a piece of you; a piece with a story that somehow features in your life. It might be quite mundane, it might be something quite extraordinary, and giving it away is actually difficult to do. Come along to
hear about and to contribute to this extraordinary project that will create a living archive of the lives of the people of the South East.
