Business Brunch with Visit Brighton

The Brighton Marathon was the dream of Tim Hutchings, an ex-Olympic athlete and Athletics commentator. In 2007, Tim realised the potential for a coastal marathon event; it then took almost two years of consultation, research, planning and determination to convince the Brighton & Hove City Council that a marathon along the City’s streets would be great for the community.

On June 1st 2009, The Grounded Events Company Ltd was born on a dining room table and the hard work began. Just 25 months later and thanks to a cumulative total of 2,000 volunteers, the marathon was watched by over 150,000 spectators and completed by over 15,000 runners; raising £6million for charity and more for the local economy.

The landscape of Brighton seafront changed overnight and the conversation changed. People in the City were inspired, motivated and proud: Brighton got active.

Since the first ever Brighton Marathon in April, The Grounded Events Company haven’t taken their foot off the gas for a moment, selling over 18,000 places for the 2012 race is just 6 weeks. Next year, it’s hoped that the Brighton Marathon will be a Gold Standard World class event, putting Brighton on the international running map.

At this special brunch event in partnership with Visit Brighton, Tom Naylor, General Manager and co-founder of the Grounded Events Company will be talking about the challenges of bringing such a huge sporting event to the City and his dreams for the future of the event.
