The ‘Nourish to Flourish’ Breakfast

The Young Parents Project was founded in 2006 by mum and nutritionist Nina Ross, inspired by her work with pregnant teenagers and her own sister becoming a parent at eighteen.

Whilst working on a youth support programme for pregnant teenagers Nina saw that the diet and nutrition of the young women was extremely poor. Time, money and a lack of awareness all contributed to this, resulting in weight issues, mood swings, aggression and depression.

After studying nutritional therapy at the College of Natural Nutrition, funding from the Glimmer of Hope foundation allowed Nina to start running projects in Whitehawk and Moulsecoomb in 2007.

The Young Parents Project now employs seven members of staff and has secured £200,000 from the SEIF (Social Enterprise Investment Fund) to start up a social investment arm.

At this breakfast, Nina will share her inspirational story and talk about the challenges of building a social enterprise to create real change for young parents in the city.
