A whole host of strategic partners have come together to grasp the thorny issue of business waste in Brighton & Hove.

Businesses across the city are being asked to report on their issues and concerns so that, by working together, common priorities
can be thrashed out and action taken to improve current waste management provision.  To take the simple, 5 minute survey, please click here.
The Hove Business Partnership, Hove Business Association, Federation of Small Business, Brighton & Hove Business Forum, Unique Brighton, The Chamber of Commerce, and the Business Crime Reduction Partnership,  in partnership with Brighton & Hove City Council,  have come together for the first time to quiz their memberships on the issues that need to be addresses to make Brighton & Hove a more sustainable city when it deals with its trade waste.

The business community is working closely with Brighton & Hove City Council. While the council is not responsible for collecting trade waste, it is keen to assist local businesses in any way it can. For example, by providing specialist advice on recycling which could help businesses to cut waste and costs, and acting as a link between businesses and firms providing trade waste and recycling collections in the city.

By clicking on this link and answering the questions in the short survey, local businesses will be helping to create an action plan based on real issues, by pooling resources and focussing on the emergent priorities.

Gavin Stewart, Hove Town Centre Manager and Chair of the Business Waste Action Group said, ‘This is a real opportunity for businesses to air their issues and see something done about them.  We are hoping that the survey will throw up broad themes that we will be able to take action on and address across the city. There may be opportunities for businesses to work together to reduce their outgoings and see an impact on their balance sheets.  But at the moment, so many businesses deal with their waste in isolation, that any benefits that could be had by working together are currently impossible to fathom.’

The survey is as simple as possible and has been verified by waste management specialists from Brighton University so as to give the project maximum impact.

Details of the survey will be analysed towards the end of June with a first draft of the action plan ready for early Autumn.  Please make sure you complete the survey by Wednesday 17th June.
