Want to be part of a project that helps schoolchildren improve their literacy levels and develop workplace skills?

Would your organisation like to be part of a project that helps schoolchildren improve their literacy levels and develop a range of workplace skills?

Chamber member Jane Hughes, a former national newspaper journalist, is working with schools on a range of practical media and careers projects.

These projects teach a variety of skills useful for the world of work, such as how to ask questions, be resourceful, communicate clearly, present information in interesting ways, work as part of a team, carry out research, construct and present a balanced argument and write engaging prose.

They also aim to build links with potential future employers and explore a spectrum of career paths by inviting guests into schools and setting up funding partnerships.

The projects aren’t expensive to run but they can make the world of difference to the young people involved. An example of a previous project with 13-year-old students – The Helenswood Reporter – can be viewed here.

Jane is keen to talk to companies who might be interested in funding this kind of activity, either as a one-off project or a longer-term commitment.

If you’d like to talk through possible options and opportunities then please call Jane on 07748 653 573 or email jane@janehughesfeatures.co.uk
