At a celebration of its 450th anniversary on Monday 28th September, The Barceló Brighton Old Ship Hotel, Brighton’s oldest hotel, launched the Barceló Apprentice Chef Academy (BACA) a new scheme to train and attract the most talented young chefs in the UK.  During the event, where special guests included Margaret Hodge MP, The Minister for Culture and Tourism and Mayor of Brighton & Hove Councillor Ann Norman, Barceló Hotels called upon the town’s finest apprentices to join its team and benefit from this new initiative.

With postal workers planning a 48-hour strike starting on Thursday 22nd October, there is undoubtedly going to be a degree of worry among businesses in Brighton & Hove, who have urgent delivery requirements. Brighton Pier is celebrating 110 years with an exclusive afternoon reception on the Thursday the 22nd of October. Local businesses are invited to an afternoon of drinks, light bites and networking, with special guests including Brighton Mayor, Councillor Ann Norman, Scott Marshall, Director of Cultural Services at Brighton & Hove City Council, and Jeremy Brinkworth, Head of Industry Services at Visit England.

The event will take a look at the past, present and future of not just the Pier but heritage, culture and tourism across the city.

Business Lifebelt – winner of the ‘Best contribution to the local economy’ in the Public Services Awards on 24th September 2009

Business Lifebelt is a package of measures to help businesses in the economic downturn. Funded by Brighton & Hove City Council, it was designed and delivered by the Brighton & Hove Chamber of Commerce and Business Link Sussex.

The Federation of Disabled People is delighted to announce its success in winning in two categories at the recent Brighton & Hove Public Service Awards 2009.  These new City-wide awards celebrate the work of local public services and volunteers.  

The Federation of Disabled People won the Public Service Award and our Accessible City Guide won the Best Community Initiative.

The British Athletes Commission is encouraging local businesses to support British athletes in the build up to the 2012 Olympics.

Unlike a conventional sponsorship arrangement, Sussex businesses are being asked to purchase copies of the Sussex Invitation Book. This book is published in 9 regions across the country, including most recently, Brighton, Hove & West Sussex. It is a discount voucher and savings directory with hundreds of pounds worth of discounts and special offers, ideal as part of a staff benefits scheme.
