Behind the Scenes: Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft (Members only)

The next event in our popular “Behind the Scenes” series is not just for art-lovers but is also perfect for the art-uninitiated.

Lesser known brother of the famous Eric Gill, Max Gill’s work is finally being recognised as a mark of his stand-alone talent. “Max Gill: Wonderground Man”, at the Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft showcases many of his pictures and on a unique, Chamber-organised tour, you’ll be able to find out what all the fuss is about.

Join us on Thursday 10 January from 5.30pm until 7pm at the museum for a guided tour of the museum and exhibition, with networking, drinks, and nibbles.

Artist, architect and letter designer, Max Gill was famous in his own era. His bright, striking graphic work combined creativity with public information and sometimes a bit of propaganda. You’ll discover his highly decorative maps, with their vibrant colours and unusual lettering, including the exceptionally beautiful 1914 Wonderground Map, a fantastically detailed, imaginative take on the London Underground.

What makes this exhibition and tour so special is that Max Gill’s work had been almost forgotten until a major collection of his artwork was discovered by chance in the cottage that had once been his home.

And now you’ll be able to view and enjoy them at this highly anticipated “Behind the Scenes” tour. As ever, don’t forget your business cards as there will be plenty of time to meet and chat with fellow attendees afterwards.
