Grassroots Suicide Prevention

Supporting communities to prevent suicide, one life at a time.
We are a small charity that teaches suicide alertness and intervention skills to community members and professionals. We contribute our collective expertise to local & national suicide prevention agendas and actively engage in suicide prevention strategy and action planning. We raise awareness and our message is a simple one: Together we can make our communities safer from suicide.
Founded in 2006 in Brighton & Hove, Grassroots fosters a better understanding of suicide and mental health in the South East. Grassroots engages communities and professionals in preventing suicide through strategy, training, consultancy, and campaigning.
We deliver effective, evidence-based and affordable World Health Organisation approved training in suicide alertness and intervention skills. Grassroots has trained over 5,000 key people in suicide prevention and mental health (much of it funded at the point of delivery). We also hold seats on several advisory committees in Sussex. Nationally, we are an active member of the National Suicide Prevention Alliance (NSPA) and have facilitated suicide awareness sessions for MPs at the Houses of Parliament.
We have developed the UK's first suicide prevention app - Stay Alive - which has won prestigious awards and, with over 12,000 downloads is widely used by people with thoughts of suicide and those concerned about them.
Grassroots is also working with local businesses to help them become safer from suicide. Over 50 companies have taken the Talk to Us suicide prevention pledge (under the Projects tab on our website), committing to
- encourage colleagues to be open and honest when life gets difficult
- talk sensitively to colleagues if we are worried about them
- help them get support if they need it.
